and thus the “land of the gospel” (Lohmeyer, 29; Pesch, 1:104; Gnilka, 1:69–71). “And preached the gospel from God” (κηρύσσων τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ Θεοῦ). The evangelist appears to have used terminology drawn from the Church’s mission situation to describe Jesus’ activity in Galilee (cf. Rom 1:1; 15:16; 2 Cor 11:7; 1 Thess 2:2, 8; 1 Pet 4:17, so Stuhlmacher, Evangelium, 1:237–38). Yet 1:14 depicts Jesus’ coming in terms of Isaiah as the one who heralds the good news from God (e.g., 52:7; 61:1).
